The Blessed Place

May 9, 2008 by theanswerorg

Are you at the end of yourself?  Have you run out of options and out of hope?  This is a BLESSED PLACE.  The less there is of you the more there can be of the Lord!  Begin to rejoice and thank Him!  Now He can begin working with you out of the way.

Have you lost something or someone that you counted very precious? You are in a BLESSED PLACE!  Into that emptiness will come the Creator of the Universe with all His love and healing.

Are you content with what you have?  WHAT A BLESSING.  It is in that place that everything becomes yours.  How sad to see those who are constantly grasping for more and more.  They never have enough and die in misery.

Do you desire to have God in your life in reality more than anything else?  If you do you are BLESSED.  It’s only when we want Him more than even our daily food that we will be filled.  If we don’t desire to have the reality of His presence, how poor, weak and useless we are. We must change our minds and seek Him until we get that desire!

Does the poverty and the condition of the wounded people bother you?  If so, you are in a BLESSED CONDITION.  When you care for others you will be cared for.

Does the condition of your “inside person” bother you?  Do you want your “inside person” - your thoughts, your imaginations, your desires, your will, the “hidden you” - do you want that part of you to be at peace?  WHAT A BLESSED PLACE TO BE! When you do .. and when it is .. you will see the Almighty God in your “outside” world.

Do you help people settle their differences or do you stir them up?  If you are one who can help people come into peace you are BLESSED. It’s at that point you will begin to discover your purpose in life.

Does your desire to have more of the reality of God turn off your “friends”?  Does your goal of walking with the Lord cause “friends” and family to make fun of you?   YOU ARE BLESSED.  If you will let it, those kinds of things will help you walk more closely with Him.  When people get upset at you for what you say and do it only means you are getting too close for them to stay comfortable in their old ways.

Jump up and down and praise the Lord when that happens.  You are walking the same path that the prophets have always walked.  That path will lead you to your destiny.   YOU ARE BLESSED!

What If ……….

What if you only had 3 hours left to live.

Who would you call?

What would you say?

What are you waiting for?

James 4:14
What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.
NIV

Do you want to get well?

May 4, 2008 by theanswerorg

John 5:1-6
Some time later, Jesus went up to Jerusalem for a feast of the Jews.  Now there is in Jerusalem near the Sheep Gate a pool, which in Aramaic is called Bethesda and which is surrounded by five covered colonnades.  Here a great number of disabled people used to lie-the blind, the lame, the paralyzed.  One who was there had been an invalid for thirty-eight years.  When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, “Do you want to get well?”
NIV

Do you want to get well?

It is amazing to me how we human beings put up with things that kill us and hide from the things that may help us. To me it is vindication of the teaching of the “fall of man”… that man is more inclined to the negative than he is to the positive.

Take illness for example. We will spend our time, sitting for hours in waiting rooms, waiting for a physician to examine us. We will spend our hard-earned money on those same physicians and on the medications or treatments they recommend. And while it may irritate us, we spend it quite willingly, especially when there is pain, discomfort or worse involved.

And it’s because we want relief! We do not want to remain ill!

Even when those same physicians tell us that there is little they can do for us or our loved ones, we continue to look to them for help.

(Do not read something into this that is not here. I am not against doctors or medicine. I thank God for those who devote their lives to helping and healing others. I am addressing this because I want us to think this through.)

However, if someone suggests that we take a little time and attend a healing meeting immediately the “guard” goes up. We become suspicious and hesitant.

Why is that?

If we are of those who do not believe that God is active in the world today, that is understandable. But if we claim to believe that God can do anything, that He is above and beyond nature, why do we react like that?

Because some “evangelists” are out for money?

HA! If you have spent any portion of your income on health insurance and on medicine you cannot claim that one because the insurance companies and health providers have already gotten more out of you than any evangelist ever will.

Because some “healing preachers” are frauds?

Please! You mean to tell me there are not those in the health care field?

Because “not everyone gets healed”?

Oh Lord. Apparently you have never read the accounts of how many who go into the “health care system” die in it.

Whatever the excuse all it does is serve to illustrate that we are not really desperate to get healed. A drowning man will grab at anything. A hungry person will eat whatever he can find. If all we do is make excuses it only shows that we think we are still in control and that we want to do it our way.

“Do you want to get well?”

Now, if you are religious I can understand the hesitation. Religion says, “We don’t do it that way.” Religion always finds a reason to reject something different than itself.

”I don’t like the way they look.’
“I don’t believe that way.’
”I don’t think God would do something like that.”
“That can’t be the Lord. Look how they ______” (fill in the blank)
“Our Church doesn’t _____________” (fill in the blank)
                                                              and lots of other excuses.

Religion is always suspicious of anything and anyone different from itself. And it always thinks it has the gift of discernment, though actually all it has is the gift of suspicion.

However, for those who are desperate to touch the Lord and be touched by Him, He will meet you! God is looking for those who are hungry and thirsty. If you need the touch of the Lord on your life… if you are hungry for more of God … if you are desperate, GOD WILL MEET YOU.

The question Jesus asked …  “Do you want to get well?” … is still being asked.

Turning the Battle

April 29, 2008 by theanswerorg

Isa 28:5 - 6
In that day the LORD Almighty will be a glorious crown, a beautiful wreath for the remnant of his people. He will be a spirit of justice to him who sits in judgment, a source of strength to those who turn back the battle at the gate.
NIV

While this verse has a literal meaning, I want us to think about a spiritual application today.  Here the Lord says He will help His people.  Are you one of “His people”?  If so then we are talking about the Lord helping YOU!   Notice the last part of verse 6.  God says He will be ” … a source of strength to those who turn back the battle at the gate .. “

How does that apply to us?  I am sure there are many ways, but let’s consider this one by asking another question.  Where are the “gates” in your life?

A “gate” gives access.  It allows entry.  What is it that allows access or entry into your life?  Let me name just a couple.  I am not saying these are the only ones, but here are a few important ones.

Your eyes
Your ears
Your thoughts

We all battle with different things.  With some it’s depression.  With others it’s some kind of addiction (whether food, alcohol, drugs, tobacco, pornography, gambling - whatever)  Some people battle thoughts of suicide.  Others battle loneliness or inferiority.  There are many battles.  If you will note, the main battleground is between our ears!  And what is the “gate”?

God promises that He will the source of strength to those who turn the back the battle AT THE GATE!!!

If you want to win the battle it has to start with what you watch, what you look at, what you read, what you listen to and what you think about.  BUT NOTE THIS.  Your “thinking” will not change until the battle at the gate - what you look at, what you watch, what you read, what you listen to - is first changed!

Deal with the problem at the gate FIRST!!

Are you worried about the economy?  Does the price of gasoline upset you?  Are you concerned how you will make it financially?  STOP LISTENING TO THE NEWS!!  QUIT READING THE NEWSPAPERS!  Stop feeding the worry and the fear.  YOU ARE FEEDING IT BY LETTING THOSE THINGS IN THE GATE!

Instead, fill your mind with the Word of God.  Feed on His Word.  Taste His love.  Eat His compassion and concern for you.  As you feed on that you “turn the battle at the gate”.  You are not letting those negative things in and soon they will wither and die and be replaced by LIFE!  By Joy! By Peace and Victory in the middle of whatever life throws at you.

You will find that God Himself will be your strength and ability in the middle of whatever happens.

So .. SHUT OFF all that other stuff.  Try this for 90 days.  Three months.  What have you got to lose?  Nothing but all those things that torment you.  Or .. you can keep on like you are, getting worse and more tormented.  It’s your choice.

Fill your mind with Scripture. Fill your house with praise music.  Listen to Godly men and women speaking positive, uplifting, Scriptural counsel.

And, spend the next 90 days reading through the Bible from cover to cover.  YOU CAN DO IT!  It only takes about 30 minutes a day.  Beginning May 1st start your life down a new trail.  The outline on how to read through the Bible in 90 days is located here http://www.haventoday.org/schedule.pdf  (- note this is a PDF flile.  It opens with Adobe Acrobat and you can print it out from there)

As you turn the battle back at the gate, listen to what you say and how you say it.  WATCH YOUR MOUTH.  What is in your heart comes out of your mouth.  Begin to speak what God says about whatever the situation is that is bothering you.  If you don’t have God’s Word for it, shut up til you do!

I tell you now .. You will be a NEW YOU!!

JUST DO IT.

Life Lessons

April 26, 2008 by theanswerorg

These are not original with me.  I don’t even know for sure that they are actual accounts.  But even if they are fictitious, they remind us of Lessons we all need to learn, and learn again, and live.

1 - First Important Lesson - The Value of Others

During my second month of college, our professor gave us a pop quiz. I was a conscientious student and had breezed through the questions until I read the last one: ’What is the first name of the woman who cleans the school?’

Surely this was some kind of joke. I had seen the cleaning woman several times. She was tall, dark-haired and in her 50’s, but how would I know her name?

I handed in my paper, leaving the last question blank. Just before class ended, one student asked if the last question would count toward our quiz grade.

‘Absolutely,’ said the professor. ‘In your careers, you will meet many people. All are significant. They deserve your attention and care, even if all you do is smile and say ‘hello.’

I’ve never forgotten that lesson. I also learned her name was Dorothy.

2. - Second Important Lesson - Help Those In Need

One night, at 11:3 0 p.m., an older African American woman was standing on the side of an Alabama highway trying to endure a lashing rainstorm. Her car had broken down and she desperately needed a ride. Soaking wet, she decided to flag down the next car. A young white man stopped to help her, generally unheard of in those conflict-filled 60s.. The man took her to safety, helped her get assistance and put her into a taxicab.

She seemed to be in a big hurry, but wrote down his address and thanked him. Seven days went by and a knock came on the man’s door. To his surprise, a giant console color TV was delivered to his home. A special note was attached..

It read: ‘Thank you so much for assisting me on the highway the other night. The rain drenched not only my clothes, but also my spirits. Then you came along. Because of you, I was able to make it to my dying husband’s bedside just before he passed away.. God bless you for helping me and unselfishly serving others.’

Sincerely, Mrs. Nat King Cole.

3 - Third Important Lesson - Remember Those Who Serve.

In the days when an ice cream sundae cost much less, a 10-year-old boy entered a hotel coffee shop and sat at a table. A waitress put a glass of water in front of him.

‘How much is an ice cream sundae?’ he asked.

‘Fifty cents,’ replied the waitress.

The little boy pulled is hand out of his pocket and studied the coins in it.

‘Well, how much is a plain dish of ice cream?’ he inquired.

By now more people were waiting for a table and the waitress was growing impatient.

‘Thirty-five cents,’ she brusquely replied.

The little boy again counted his coins.

‘I’ll have the plain ice cream,’ he said.

The waitress brought the ice cream, put the bill on the table and walked away. The boy finished the ice cream, paid the cashier and left. When the waitress came back, she began to cry as she wiped down the table. There, placed neatly beside the empty dish, were two nickels and five pennies..

You see, he couldn’t have the sundae, because he had to have enough left to leave her a tip.

4 - Fourth Important Lesson. - The Obstacles in Our Path.

In ancient times, a King had a boulder placed on a roadway. Then he hid himself and watched to see if anyone would remove the huge rock Some of the king’s wealthiest merchants and courtiers came by and simply walked around it. Many loudly blamed the King for not keeping the roads clear, but none did anything about getting the stone out of the way.

Then a peasant came along carrying a load of vegetables. Upon approaching the boulder, the peasant laid down his burden and tried to move the stone to the side of the road. After much pushing and straining, he finally succeeded. After the peasant picked up his load of vegetables, he noticed a purse lying in the road where the boulder had been. The purse contained many gold coins and a note from the King indicating that the gold was for the person who removed the boulder from the roadway. The peasant learned what many of us never understand!

Every obstacle presents an opportunity to improve our condition.

5 - Fifth Important Lesson - The Spirit of Giving

Many years ago, when I worked as a volunteer at a hospital, I got to know a little girl named Liz who was suffering from a rare & serious disease. Her only chance of recovery appeared to be a blood transfusion from her 5-year old brother, who had miraculously survived the same disease and had developed the antibodies needed to combat the illness.. The doctor explained the situation to her little brother, and asked the little boy if he would be willing to give his blood to his sister.

I saw him hesitate for only a moment before taking a deep breath and saying, ‘Yes I’ll do it if it will save her.’ As the transfusion progressed, he lay in bed next to his sister and smiled, as we all did, seeing the color returning to her cheek. Then his face grew pale and his smile faded.

He looked up at the doctor and asked with a trembling voice, ‘Will I start to die right away’.

Being young, the little boy had misunderstood the doctor; he thought he was going to have to give his sister all of his blood in order to save her but he had chosen to save her anyway.

Damaged Goods

April 23, 2008 by theanswerorg

I Cor. 1:26 Brothers, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. 27 But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 28 He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things-and the things that are not-to nullify the things that are, 29 so that no one may boast before him. 30 It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God-that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. 31 Therefore, as it is written: “Let him who boasts boast in the Lord.” NIV

So your life is a mess? You are on God’s FIRST CHOICE LIST!
You say terrible things have happened to you? YOU ARE SOMEONE GOD CAN USE!

Maybe you have tried and tried and failed and failed. Now you feel that there is no hope. Well guess what? If you have come to the place where you have admitted that you can do nothing, YOU ARE RIGHT WHERE GOD CAN START!!

God does not use perfect things. He takes broken things and makes them work. He does not always fix them! He uses them in condition that He found them so that He gets all the credit. Look at some of the broken things God used:

When Gideon led his men against the enemy, they had break the containers before the lights could shine out.
When Mary anointed Jesus, the container had to be broken before the perfume could be poured out.
When Paul and all those on board with him escaped the sinking ship they did it on broken pieces of the ship.

Your background may not be very good. Perhaps your family history is a bad one? You are in good company!

Joseph came from a dysfunctional family.
His brothers were violent and homicidal.
One of his brothers got his own daughter-in-law pregnant!
Consider Samson. He loved to party and really enjoyed the company of bad girls. He often spent his evenings with a hooker.
David married just about every girl he was attracted to including his neighbor’s wife!

You may think there is no hope. AND THERE MAY NOT BE .. at least in the normal way of thinking. That’s OK. You are not alone.

Before God could bring the beginning of Israel He allowed Abraham and Sarah to get ‘way beyond child-bearing years… to the place where there was no hope of having kids.

Before God could use Jacob He had to cripple him so that he limped the rest of his life. But his name was changed and he came into his destiny.

Before God could use Moses he had to remove his reliance upon his own strength and abilities. He spent 40 years hiding out from the law until came to the place where he relied totally on the Lord.

Before Peter could become the Rock that God had called him to be he had to come to the place where he realized that without God’s help he was a failure.

The very thing that you feel is tearing you down can be the thing that God uses to make you the person you were meant to be.

2 Cor 12:7-10 Because of the extravagance of those revelations, and so I wouldn’t get a big head, I was given the gift of a handicap to keep me in constant touch with my limitations. Satan’s angel did his best to get me down; what he in fact did was push me to my knees. No danger then of walking around high and mighty! At first I didn’t think of it as a gift, and begged God to remove it. Three times I did that, and then he told me,
My grace is enough; it’s all you need.
My strength comes into its own in your weakness.
Once I heard that, I was glad to let it happen. I quit focusing on the handicap and began appreciating the gift. It was a case of Christ’s strength moving in on my weakness. Now I take limitations in stride, and with good cheer, these limitations that cut me down to size—abuse, accidents, opposition, bad breaks. I just let Christ take over! And so the weaker I get, the stronger I become. The Message

So .. you have been mistreated, misunderstood, gossiped about, lied about , horribly misused and gone through things that are terrible. I AM NOT SAYING THAT IS GOOD!! I am saying that these are the very things that can make you the person God wants to use to help others.

YOU ARE NOT WHAT YOU HAVE GONE THROUGH!!
YOU ARE WHAT GOD SAYS YOU ARE.
Begin to search the Scripture and find out what God says about you.
DO NOT GET HUNG UP IN THE PAST. GET HUNG UP IN GOD’S LOVE AND MERCY.

I am not talking about just giving up and living in sin. No!!

Hebrews 12:17 Watch out for the Esau syndrome: trading away God’s lifelong gift in order to satisfy a short-term appetite. You well know how Esau later regretted that impulsive act and wanted God’s blessing—but by then it was too late, tears or no tears. The Message

I am talking about the fact that some have tried and tried and cannot seem get victory and now the temptation is to just give up.

DON’T DO IT! KEEP ON GOING! It’s the keeping on keeping on, trying to move toward God … falling and getting discouraged and then getting up again and moving on that is the proof of faith!

Prov. 24:16 …. though a righteous man falls seven times, he rises again ……. NIV

The sin is not so much in the falling as it is in giving up and laying there. GET UP! Move toward the Lord.

Have you been HURT?
Have you been WOUNDED?
Are you DAMAGED GOODS?

You are in good company! You are just like most of the people in the Bible! So ….. Let’s move on .. into GOD’S PLAN for our lives.

Start with:

FORGIVENESS

- forgive yourself … forgive others … FORGIVENESS is a CHOICE. It is not a FEELING. Choose to forgive and say it out loud. “I FORGIVE ____________ in Jesus Name!”

RELEASE

- release those who have hurt or wounded you . Say it out loud .. “I RELEASE __________ in Jesus Name!”

RECEIVE

- receive by faith God’s forgiveness, His love, His mercy, His power, His release. Say it out loud …”I receive Your forgiveness Lord, in Jesus Name!”

Now get up and move toward the Lord. Seek Him. Let His will become the main desire in your life. You are a person that God can use to reach those who do not know His love. Simply ask the Lord to help you see the one in front of you that needs His love. Ask Him for His words of love for that person. Then go and share the love of God with them.

Let them know that even if they are Damaged Goods, THEY ARE STILL VALUABLE!

Lessons From Jacob

April 20, 2008 by theanswerorg

Gen. 28: 10 And Jacob went out from Beersheba, and went toward Haran.
11 And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep.
12 And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.
 13 And, behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, I am the LORD God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed;
14 And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed.
15 And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of.
16 And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not.
17 And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.

Note that Jacob was just traveling and happened to stop in this place.
LESSON - God often guides us through circumstances.

There was nothing special about the place and it was quite rocky.
LESSON - The Special Places the Lord leads us often are not appealing to the natural senses.

Jacob used a stone for a pillow!  Ow!
LESSON - The things of God are hard on our heads.

It was in this “nothing special” place that he received a revelation of his Purpose and his Destiny.  We like to imagine that those revelations come from earth-shaking events, but more often than not they come from the “nothing special” places, places we just “happened” upon.

Note: THIS was the House of God (Bethel) and THIS was The Gate of Heaven, and he did not know it!
We cannot come into the true House of God or approach the Gate of Heaven with our minds.  It has to be a spiritual experience.

This experience made a profound impact on Jacob.  It is evident by the fact that at the end of the chapter, Jacob starts giving!  If the religious experience you have had has not caused you to begin giving to the Lord, you either have not finished the experience or you need a real one!

Jacob had an experience that affected his life forever.

DO NOT SETTLE FOR RELIGION!

Get in touch with God.  Seek Him UNTIL He comes in a real way .. no imagination .. no pretense .. and HE TOUCHES YOUR LIFE!!  In reality.  In time and space.  He waits for you today.
